Workplace Ergonomics

These services can be commissioned individually or integrated as part of your risk assessment review. They are designed to meet the needs of an individual or small team, the workforce as a whole, visitors or clients.

Job analysis: task and posture

Job analysis is the first step in objectively measuring workplace risk factors and can significantly improve employee well-being and productivity. Specific risks may be identified and addressed by analysing the work role, observing abilities required and postures achieved during the task.

This service may also be used to create a job description for a new role or ensure the job description, equipment provision, and workstation set-up all reflect the demands of the role.

What we do:
  • work alongside management and the staff involved to identify where conflict exists within the job and where improvements may be made
  • conduct task analysis, which considers what an individual is required to do in terms of actions and/or cognitive processes to achieve completion of the task
  • conduct posture analysis, which considers the relationship between different parts of the body during a specific task
  • provide a report outlining issues identified and action required

The Equality Act: reasonable adjustment access audit

Under the Equality Act, employers must make reasonable changes to the workplace and working arrangements so that disabled employees are not placed at a disadvantage to their colleagues.

We undertake comprehensive access audits to:
  • ensure traffic routes, facilities and workstations are safe and suitable for people with disabilities
  • identify reasonable adjustments to maximise disabled accessibility and comply with the Act (the Equality Act supersedes the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
  • provide a report outlining issues identified and action required

Workplace design and layout: procurement advice and fitting trials

The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment found that while 76% of staff satisfaction is linked to salary, technology, management and work-life balance, 24% of staff satisfaction is influenced by comfort, air quality, temperature, noise, lighting and office layout (Source: “Impact of Office Design on Business Performance” (1995).

What we do:
  • ensure workspace design and layout complies with Health & Safety / DSE legislation requirements and ISO 9241
  • check that new furniture and equipment meets the needs of users before purchases are made (as an independent consultancy, we are not allied to any furniture manufacturer or equipment supplier and so will provide you with impartial advice based on your needs, whether they be for an individual, a team, department or your organisation as a whole)
  • conduct fitting trials to ensure a design “fits” real, moving people (we select a wide variety of users with different ages, backgrounds, heights, frame sizes, weights etc. to test furniture and equipment/products)

Human Computer Interaction: usability evaluation and testing

Human computer interaction (HCI) is the study of interaction between people (users) and computers. Badly designed computer systems (hardware and/or software) may result in reduced productivity and lead to worker ill health and potential law suits if health & safety and disability needs have not been taken in to account. This also applies when a system is inappropriately selected or implemented.

Greenleafe will work with you to ensure the usability and accessibility of your systems.

What we do:
  • Usability evaluation (expert review): We will work with you to improve the user experience and ensure the product/system meets the intended need, e.g. the selection of new computer applications, systems and equipment for use by your employees or customers; identification of an application, system or device to meet the needs of a specific task; the design of your website etc.
  • Usability testing (real user review): We can improve your product selection or help develop an interactive system by observing real users performing tasks, highlighting the problems they encounter and identifying ways to eliminate issues and/or provide alternative solutions.
  • Services

Whatever your requirements, our services may be implemented on their own or combined as part of a bespoke package tailored to your needs.
